HOW IT ALL STARTED
VVCougars.com and the Cougar Sports Network are the brainchild of Peckville resident Chris Kucharski. Chris' family hails from Archbald and has been around high school football since he was born. His father Stanley was a standout at Archbald High School and Bloomsburg University before becoming a football coach for almost 40 years. Chris didn't have the talent his father had or the desire to coach, but he did love the sport so he decided to approach it from a different angle - broadcasting.
Chris started his broadcasting career in Pittsburgh with the NSN sports network where he was in charge of operations but also broadcasted high school sports including football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, hockey, and soccer. Chris called over 100 high school games and also co-hosted a sports talk show on WZUM Radio.
Chris would move on to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review newspaper as the online sports editor, but he continued his broadcasting career as the radio color analyst for Duquesne University football and also TV for the Comcast HS Football Game of the Week.
As his popularity grew, he then started hosting his own sports talk shows. He was host of "The Baseball Show" on Fox Sports Radio 970 and then "Black 'N' Gold Radio" on the Steelers Radio Network, a game day, pregame show for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also was a regular substitute for "Savran on Sports" and "In the Locker Room", both drive time shows on Fox Sports Radio 970.
Chris decided to move back to his roots in the Valley. After taking a marketing job with Lackawanna College, Chris has Friday nights available to now bring Valley View Football to the airwaves or in this case, the world wide web.
Joining Chris for the 2009 season are Jim Rodway and Scott Mackinder. Jim is Valley View graduate and former Cougar hoop star who went on to play basketball at Wilkes and the University of Scranton. He is a local businessman whose daughter Abbey is a former three-sport athlete at Valley View and his son Alec is a three-sport athlete as well at the middle school level.
Scott is a former Cougar football player who attended Villanova University. He is currently employed at Gentex and enjoys coaching his sons on the Junior Cougars. He is also an avid Penn State, Eagles and Phillies fan.
The Cougar Sports Network broadcasted 61 Valley View games last season including football, soccer, basketball, baseball and softball. His goals are to promote student athletes and allow friends, family and alumni of Valley View to enjoy and root for the Cougars.
Like we mentioned, Chris resides in Peckville with his wife Jill, their two sons Atticus and Nicholas and their dogs Annie and Dooley.
